How to play Word Search

Open Word Search, check the instructions and begin a round. Find every listed word in a 10×10 grid. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Make your first input carefully and watch the result. Use the example below to understand a decision.

Each board contains eight target words from the included English word list.

Notice the feedback

Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention. Notice the feedback after each input.

Your goal

Find every listed word in a 10×10 grid. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Try to explain the aim in your own words.

Step by step

  1. Select the first and last letter of a straight word.
  2. Words can run horizontally, vertically or diagonally, in either direction.
  3. Find all eight targets.
  4. New puzzle shuffles again.

Controls

Tap or click endpoints. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Look at the feedback after the action.

A useful example

Selecting the endpoints in reverse order also finds the same word. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Keep the controls nearby.

Watch out for this

Words cannot turn corners. Take a moment to reassess the position before continuing. Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round.
