How to play Ludo

Bring your attention to one round of Ludo. Bring all four tokens home before the other players. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Use the opening round to become familiar with the layout. Look at what changes after your first action.

Play with two or four people on the same device. Follow the house rules shown on the board; internet matchmaking is not available.

Keep the aim in sight

Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules. Keep the objective visible.

Your goal

Bring all four tokens home before the other players. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Return to the instructions when a step is unclear.

Step by step

  1. Roll six to leave the yard.
  2. Move an eligible token by the die value; home requires an exact roll.
  3. Capture opponents on non-safe squares.
  4. Six, capture and finishing a token grant another roll; a third consecutive six forfeits that roll.

Controls

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Look at the feedback after the action.

A useful example

A token two steps from home cannot use a three. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Read the matching step again.

Watch out for this

Safe squares cannot capture; blockades are not part of this edition. Compare the situation with the worked example. Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention.
