How to play Dominoes

Bring your attention to one round of Dominoes. Empty your hand, or hold fewer pips when both players are blocked. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Identify the playing area and the controls you need. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Double-six draw dominoes, local two players with shared-screen visible hands.

A careful first round

Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal. Keep the objective visible.

Your goal

Empty your hand, or hold fewer pips when both players are blocked. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Keep the controls in easy reach.

Step by step

  1. Play a tile matching either open chain end.
  2. Choose which end to use.
  3. Draw only when no tile fits.
  4. Pass only with no legal tile and an empty stock.

Controls

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. Read a button’s label before selecting it. Look at the feedback after the action.

A useful example

An open 4 accepts 4–2, leaving 2 open. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Take a moment to compare.

Watch out for this

You cannot ignore a legal match to draw. A different version of the game may use a different rule. When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round.
